Introducing Meinir Gwilym, a Welsh singer songwriter and broadcaster from Anglesey-Mon-Wales, famed in her own culture for her folky/pop lyric and heart-driven blend of uniqueness.

Meinir will be visiting Japan this March and April in hope to introduce Welsh Music to Japan. Her interest in Japan ‘has always been there’, she says she believes that somewhere there’s a common root to both cultures: Wales and Japan.

Meinir in her own words, "Welsh language music...? Well, if you’ve never heard it, you’ve not heard the soul of a country speak. And, if you believe that land holds memories, then it stands to reason that to have not heard the soul of Wales equates to having been denied the opportunity to listen to a part of the earth’s story.  Culture and music in particular is a language, and although Welsh is the oldest of all European languages still spoken, its music and rhythms as old as the hills and mountains, music does not belong to one place or another. Music is ONE throughout – it's a worldwide phenomenon.  So, if music is a global language of the human soul and the earth’s life force, then, a true and organic music in any language should transcend any border – should speak to any soul – no matter how far removed physically or culturally. So – Welsh language music should speak to the soul of a cultures as distinct as Wales and Japan."
